OPERATIONS
North American Palladium’s operations and exploration potential represent the long term future of our business. The Lac des Iles (LDI) mine features a unique, world class ore body with modern infrastructure, including both an underground mine and an open pit mine.
In 2017, the Company made the successful transition to the sublevel shrinkage (SLS) mining method in the lower part of the mine. SLS replaced the longhole, open stopping method, which left ore in remnant pillars and created ground control issues. Moving to the SLS method has increased total ore recovery, lowered operating costs, raised production rates and improved geotechnical ground conditions. The Company is also applying similar, low-cost, underground bulk mining methods in the upper part of the mine, in order to become one of Canada’s largest and lowest cost underground metal mines.
